Drowning cause of Red Lake death
Red Lake Department of Public Safety Director Bill Brunelle announced that Arlen
Wayne Good, 59, died April 10 by drowning in the northwest part of Red Lake.

His body was found in about 10 feet of water the about 9:55 a.m. the morning of
April 11.

Red Lake Law Enforcement received a report at 1:39 p.m. April 10 that Good had
failed to return from a fishing trip with two other men near the Red Lake Narrows.
The men were traveling on snowmobiles and were returning from picking up
fishing gear. They encountered heavy fog and rainy conditions. Good apparently
became disoriented and traveled near weakened ice and open water.

After receiving the call, the Red Lake Department of Safety called in the Red Lake
Fire Department Search and Rescue Team, Conservation Officer Department and
notified Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp and Bemidji Fire Chief Dave Hoefer
for assistance. The Bemidji Fire Department dispatched a Hovercraft to the scene
and was able to determine a possible area where the victim went into the lake.

The Lakes Area Dive Team responded with recovery efforts along with the Bemidji
Fire Department, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. The Lakes Area Dive Team
consists of members from the Beltrami, Cass and Hubbard sheriff’s departments.

Good’s funeral was held April 15.
