Numbers on the rise for Red Lake girls golf
program
By Pat Miller
Bemidji Pioneer

The numbers at Red Lake also are on the rise, much to the delight of coach Gloria
Collyard

“We’re building every year and that is encouraging to see,” she said, adding that
this year 22 girls are out for the varsity and junior high golf programs.

“It’s nice to see the numbers growing.”

Among this year’s cast are senior returners Heather Stillday and Shanise
Rosebear. Stillday was Red Lake’s top golfer last year.

Also back are freshmen Keia Roy, Daisey Mondragon and Parrish Barnaby plus
eighth-graders Tatianna McClain and Brenna Pemberton.

“Heather has been with the program since sixth grade and is a great leader,”
Collyard said. “I’m hoping that she and perhaps a few other girls could make the
Northern Pine All-Conference team.”

A section championship appears to be within reach of the Blackduck girls golf
team as the Drakes were in the top four a year ago and return their entire roster.

“We could be in the hunt,” said Blackduck coach Jeremy Berg. “We don’t have a
sub-section in Section 7A and our goal is to peak at sections.”

Leading the Drakes are seniors Faith Pomp and Erin Haws. Also returning are
junior Oxana Pfannenstein, sophomores Morgan Young and Madison Stelton plus
eighth-graders Kelsey Olson and Sasha Pfannenstein.

“We have 40 kids in the program from sixth grade to 12th grade,” Berg said. “In
terms of numbers we are one of the best schools in the conference.

The Panthers will be very young as sophomore Justine Jourdain is the veteran.
The remainder of the team includes freshmen Skyla Robinson plus eighth-graders
Kaitlyn Dahmen, Leilani Cloud and Miranda Richards.

“With the loss of three seniors last year this year is shaping up to be a rebuilding
season,” said CL-B coach Bryan Anderson. “Kayla and Miranda are returning
varsity participants and we will be looking to them for leadership.”
