Archie “Gary” Graves, age 60, of Redby, Minn. died Monday, January 18, 2010 at his home.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Redby Episcopal Church, Redby, Minn. with Rev. George Ross officiating. A wake will begin 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Redby Community Center and continue until the time of the service. Interment will be in the family burial ground. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minn.
Honorary Pall bearers will be the Red Lake Sanitation Department, Jimmie O. Oakgrove, Oliver Beaulieu, Roger White. Jr., Gary Sargent, Gordon Jallen, Adrian Lussier Sr., Henry Donnell Sr., Rusty Donnell, Donald “Dudie” May, Dan Siegler, Kevin Sigana, Roger Strong and Dave Donnell Sr.
Casket Bearers will be Rawn Graves, Brandon Mountain, Adrian Lussier Jr., Charlie Kelly Jr., Royce Graves III, Joe Beaulieu, Ryan Lussier and Scott Graves.
Archie Gary Graves was born November 6, 1949 in Red Lake, Minn. to Royce and Bernadine (Sargent) Graves. He attended school at Red Lake and graduated in 1967 from Red Lake High School. He attended Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, Kan. and also Bemidji State University. On May 22, 1980 he married Victoria Irons in Redby, Minn. He worked in Minneapolis, Minn. and was a commercial fisherman with his dad and brothers in Red Lake, Minn. He was a police officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, prosecutor for the Red Lake Tribal Courts and Director of Red Lake Sanitation Department until the time of his death. He coached baseball, basketball, football, was an avid sports fan, loved gardening and his yard. Gary was a great sports fan all of his life, and encouraged his children to actively participate in sports so he could be on the sidelines coaching and cheering them on.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Graves of Redby, Minn.; 3 daughters, Elizabeth (Oliver) Graves of Red Lake, Minn., Tara (Roger) White of Redby, Minn. and Serena Graves of Redby, Minn.; 2 sons, Byron (Bobbi) Graves of Redby, Minn. and Matthew (Dawn) Graves of Redby, Minn.; special son, Rawn Graves of Red Lake, Minn.; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild;
2 brothers, Royce (Diana) Graves Jr. of Red Lake, Minn. and Joseph (Jill) Graves of Red Lake, Minn.; 2 sisters, Eloise (Gordon) Jallen of Pinewood, Minn. and Darlene (Adrian) Lussier Sr. of Red Lake, Minn..
He was preceded in death by his father, Royce Graves Sr.; mother, Bernadine Graves; 2 brothers, Preston Graves and Rusty Smith and sister, Janet Graves.
