Barbara “Bubba” Mae Gotchie, 50, of Ball Club, died surrounded by her
family, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Miller Dwan Medical Center, Duluth.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Ball Club
Community Center.
Arrangements were made by the Carroll Funeral Home.
The active pallbearers will be Jake Bowstring, Steven Gotchie, Leon (Beaver)
Bebeau, Kelly Bowstring, Ricky Haaland, Demien Rollins, Billy Joe Losh, Jim
Michaud, Curtis Jackson, Kevin Doerr, Ben Gotchie Jr., Andrew Jackson,
Peter White, Brett Thompson and Jaysen Heyer.
The honorary pallbearers will be Myron Lyons, Lee Turney, Francis (Cowboy)
Wind, Sharon Schaaf, Julie Whitebird, Jean Beaulieu, Carol Benjamin and all
past and present Head Start employees.
She was born May 11, 1959, in Cass Lake. She graduated from Deer River
High School in 1978. She worked for Leech Lake Head Start for 32 years.
She enjoyed working with children, going to pow-wows, attending family and
community events. She also enjoyed listening to Gil Applebee music. She
also enjoyed listening to and attending football games.
She is survived by her father, Robert John Mitchell; special sons, whom she
raised, Jamie (Lisa) Mitchell, Robert (Anna) Gotchie Jr. and Cordell Howard
Jr.; sisters, Connie Taylor, Elizabeth Wakanabo, Wanda (Dale)
Youngrunningcrane, Bernie (John) Charnoski, Becky (Cordell) Mitchell and
Loretta Monroe; brothers, Robert Gotchie Sr., Roger (Loretta) Gotchie, Jamie
(Lisa) Mitchell and Larry Hardy; adopted sisters, Mindy (Pat) Richards and
Beverly (Ron) Lee; adopted brothers, Billy Jo (Darla) Morrison, Troy House
and Jim (Julia) Michaud; a Godson; nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Mitchell; 11 uncles; seven
aunts; an adopted brother; a half-sister and two brothers-in-laws.
