Charles Benjamin “Ben” Azure, 76, of Mahnomen, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at
Triumph Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., today, Dec. 10, at Samuel Memorial
Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the
funeral today. Burial will be in the Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery,
Naytahwaush.

Arrangements are with Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen and Winger.

He was born March 12, 1934, to Benoite and Madeline (Roy) Azure in White
Earth. He lived on the White Earth Reservation most of his young life until he joined
the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge. He
married Dolores Hasbrook June 8, 1963. They had two children together and he
had three step-children he raised as his own. They resided in Minneapolis until
moving to the Roy Lake area in 1979. He loved to spend time with his family and
be outdoors. He worked as a carpenter at the Shooting Star Casino for many
years until his retirement. He loved to fish, hunt, rice, spend time with his children,
grandchildren and all 36 great-grandchildren, family and friends. He was proud to
be a part of the White Earth Honor Guard. He traveled all over to different
powwows.

He is survived by his wife of Mahnomen; daughter, Cheryl LaFriniere-Alrick
Wadena Jr. of Mahnomen; son, James Prince of Mahnomen; sister, Minnie
(Collins) Oakgrove of Red Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Murray; sons, Robert Morgan
and Benjamin Azure; and several siblings.
