Edna Marion Ellis Whitefeather, 83, of Cass Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 10,
2010.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the
Veterans Memorial Building in Cass Lake with the Rev. George Ross and the
Rev. John Rock officiating. The wake will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at
the Veterans Memorial Building in Cass Lake and continue until the time of
the service. Burial will be at the Ellis Family Cemetery following the service.

Arrangements are with Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.

Pallbearers will be Benay Fairbanks, Leroy L. Fairbanks, Michael RedEagle,
Doug Day, Justin Hill and Jay Northbird. Interment

She was born Oct. 26, 1926 to Charles Ellis and Julia Cloud Ellis at home 6.5
miles south of Cass Lake, the third of seven children. She attended Pipestone
Indian School and later attended and graduated from Flandreau Indian
Boarding School in Flandreau, S.D,, where she met many lifelong friends. In
1947, she married LeRoy B. Fairbanks in Minneapolis. During their marriage
they had five children. Their marriage ended in 1963. In 1967, she married
Robert Wesley Whitefeather, and they had one son. They lived in Fremont,
Calif., before moving home to Cass Lake in 1979. In January 2002, Robert
died. She was a Senior Companion and member of the Ojibwe Singers.

She is survived by her children, Deanna (Dee) Fairbanks, Donald K. (Maggie)
Fairbanks, Dale Fairbanks and Robert Whitefeather, all of Cass Lake; seven
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers,
Charles Ellis Jr., Lawrence Ellis, Phillip Ellis, Julius-Morris “Bug” Ellis and
Mathew Ellis; sister, Alice Ellis Hill; sons Ralph Fairbanks and Baby Boy
Fairbanks; and one granddaughter.
