Elsie Esther Bush, 93, of Bagley, died surrounded by her family on Sunday,
Jan. 24, 2009, at her daughter, Lucille’s home in Mahnomen, Minn.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the Rice Lake
Community Center in Rice Lake with the Rev. John Rock and Mike Swann
officiating. A wake will begin at 4 p.m. today, Jan. 28, and continue until the
time of service at the Community Center. Burial will be in Pine Bend Cemetery
in Pine Bend, Minn.

The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements.

She was born July 2, 1916, to Louise Durant and John Skunk at Twin Lakes,
Minn. Her mother died shortly after childbirth, so she was raised by her
maternal grandparents Mary and Charlie Durant. She attended Wahpeton
Indian Boarding School for many years and later met and married John Henry
Bush Jr. of Twin Lakes. The family moved around a lot throughout northern
Minnesota due to his occupation as a logger. They lived in Bagley,
Mahnomen, Northome, Lake Kabetogema and Cass Lake.

She enjoyed spending time with her large family, especially with her many
great grandchildren and their children. She loved to go to bingo and meet
friends at the casino. She loved going to pow-wows and enjoyed watching the
dancing and enjoyed dancing herself. Elsie did not like being left at home
alone and enjoyed going on car trips anywhere and everywhere. She also
enjoyed playing card games especially whist.

She is survived by her sons, Ivan Bush of Mahnomen, Emery Bush of Moose
Lake, Minn. and Donald Bush of Bagley; daughters, Rose Bush Olson Hooper
of Duluth, Minn., Joyce Bush Guinn (Roy) of Bagley, Lucille Bush Noll of
Mahnomen and Clarice Bush Fiskari of Duluth; a nephew; 28 grandchildren;
58 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ted Skunk; husband,
John Henry Bush Jr.; son, William Bush; six children who died in infancy; two
granddaughters; a grandson and a great-grandson.
