Hildegarde “Punky” Donnell, 62, of Red Lake, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at
the Red Lake Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 7, at the St. Mary’s
Mission Catholic Church in Red Lake with the Rev. Patrick Sullivan officiating.
A wake will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Red Lake Center in Red Lake
and will continue until the time of the service. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s
Mission Catholic Church Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the
Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
The pallbearers will be Emerald Tucker, Jason Lawrence, Dakota Revins,
Jane Johnson, Wilma Mondragon, Lloyd Donnell with alternates, Luen Toy and
Sam Rameriz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jourdain/Perpich and Red Lake Hospital staff,
friends and co-workers.
She was born May 14, 1948, to Luella (Tucker) Hanson and Christopher
Hanson, in Lodge Pole, Mont. She attended school in Harlem, Mont. She
graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago. She earned a business
degree from a business school in Chicago. She worked as an executive
secretary for numerous Native American Programs in Chicago. She moved to
Red Lake in 1988, where she married Frank “Sonny” Donnell. She attended
LPN school and worked at the Jourdain/Perpich Extended Care Facility until
her illness forced her to retire in 2007. She liked to read, go to pow wows,
watch movies, garden and loved cats. She loved working with the elderly and
spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Frank “Sonny” Donnell of Red
Lake; a son, Kris Donnell of Red Lake; sister, Juanita “Nita” (Luen) Toy of
Wonder Lake, Ill.; brother, William “Billy”(Maria Nochlin) Johnson of Seattle,
Wash.; special brother, Leroy “Teeners” Tucker of Lodge Pole; three
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother who helped raise
her, Juanita Tucker and a grandson.
