Jesse Allen Fairbanks, whose Ojibwe name is Manido gee-zhik which means
“Great Spirit of the Day,” 19, of Guthrie died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at St. Mary’
s Hospital in Duluth.

Traditional funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the
Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake. A wake will begin Monday
afternoon, Feb. 8, at the Guthrie Community Center in Guthrie, with a prayer
service at 5 p.m. A second wake will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Veteran’s
Memorial Building and will continue until the time of services Wednesday.
Burial next to his biological mother will be at the Porcupine Cemetery in Cass
Lake under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake.

Pallbearers will be John Salazar, Nathen Hazeldine, Devin Wells, Ian Huerd,
Derrick Gotchie, Zack Matt, with alternates, Joe Fairbanks, Travis Oxtra, Will
Klaus and Fred Fairbanks.

He is the son of William and Lorraine Klaus, Fred Fairbanks and Carolyn
Oxtra. He was born Sept. 13, 1990, in Bemidji. When he was 2 years of age,
his family moved to Guthrie and he then attended school through the 10th
grade at Laporte. He attended several different high schools and eventually
graduated from Grand Rapids High School in May 2009. He loved spending
time with family and friends, especially doing outdoor activities. He enjoyed
hunting and fishing, going to the races, but his favorite thing to do was
shooting his bow. He had won several archery tournaments and was very
proud of his archery trophies.

He is survived by his father, Fred Fairbanks of Cass Lake; father and mother
who raised him, Will and Lorraine Klaus of Guthrie; grandmother, Irene
Sherman of Bemidji; grandfather, George Klaus of Rochester, Minn.; sister,
Jessica (Kevin) St. Marie of Laporte; brothers, Kippy Wilson of Cass Lake,
Joe (Sherry) Fairbanks of Bemidji and Travis (Tara) Oxtra of Bemidji; and
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Oxtra; grandfather, Donnie
Jacobs; grandmother, Edith Vedbraaten; and uncle and aunt.
