John Henry Barrett, 86, of Bemidji died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Havenwood
Care Center in Bemidji.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the St. Philip’s
Catholic Church in Bemidji with Rev. Tony Fernando officiating. Visitation will
be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at
the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease
Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born September 16, 1923 in Red Lake, MN, the son of Charles and
Mary (Smith) Barrett. He was raised and educated St. Mary’s Mission in Red
Lake, and graduated from Red Lake High School and continued his education
at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. Throughout his life he lived and
worked for the BIA in Albuquerque, New Mexico and AB Dick in Chicago, IL.
After retirement, he moved to Minneapolis, Goodridge and Grand Rapids,
MN. His Catholic faith was very important to him, he loved to read especially in
areas of Catholicism and watch EWTN (Catholic programming) faithfully and
was an ardent fan of Mother Angelica. He also enjoyed watching sports, was
an avid gardener and conversed in the Ojibwe language.
He is survived by his sister- Della (Bill) Kinney of Becker, MN His brother-
Archie (Joyce) Barrett of Red Lake Brother-in-law- Gordon Bailey of
Keewatin, MN Sisters-in-law- Evie Barrett of Bemidji and Mona Barrett of
Redby and many nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents- Charles and Mary Barrett, 3
brothers- Adolph Barrett, Harold Barrett and Bobby Barrett, sister- Florence
Barrett and sister-in-law- Rachel Barrett.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Kathleen Eicher, Peggy Whitefeather, Bette
Prahl, Bridget Auginash, Candy Petron, LaNae Pemberton, Mary Ellen
Weingardner, Meri Barrett, Bonnie Olson, Cathe Bozich, Leslie Ripple, Mary-
Leah Cram, Cheri Glass, Shar Benson.
