Mario Juan Valtierra, 36, of Minneapolis, a member of the Leech Lake Band
of Ojibwe, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in
Minneapolis.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Minnesota
Chippewa Tribe Building in Minneapolis with spiritual leaders Thomas
Valtierra and Chris Leith officiating. A wake will begin at 4 p.m. today, Feb.
26, at the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe Building and continue until the time of
the service Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Mario Valtierra Jr., Javier, Mecurio, and Antonio Valtierra,
Javad Khan and Vicente Inamagua Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Leith, Yoel Gavilan-Cuate, Delbert
Shabaiash Sr., Vincente Inamagua Jr., Shawn Blue and Glen Green.
Arrangements are with to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.
He was born on June 22, 1973, to John Thomas and Barbara (Jackson)
Valtierra in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his father, John Valtierra of St. Paul; mother, Barbara
Erickson of Minneapolis; children, Mario, Javier, Mecurio, Anastasia, Maya,
Mariah, Migueal and Guillermo Valtierra, all of Minneapolis; brothers, Tom
(Cindy) Valtierra and Louie Valtierra, both of St. Paul, Carl and Clark Leith,
both of Minneapolis, and Antonio Valtierra of Minneapolis; sisters, Anita
(Vicente) Inamagua of Minneapolis, Crystal (Delbert Sr.) Shabaiash of Prairie
Island, Minn., and Jovita Valtierra of St. Paul; and numerous nieces, nephews
and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ricardo and Michael Valtierra and
Arnold Leith; step-father, James Erickson; and paternal grandmother, Juanita
Valtierra.
