Marvin John “Mahkwa Baum” Stone, Sr., 59, formerly of Cass Lake, died
Tuesday, Aug. 17, at his home in Eureka, Calif.

There will be a spiritual honor feast starting at 5 p.m., today, Aug. 21, at the
old Bug School in Mission. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today,
Aug, 21, at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, Cass Lake, with Greg Kingbird
as spiritual leader. Interment will be at a later date.

He was born to John Sr. and Sophie (Fairbanks) Stone on May 4, 1951, in the
White Earth Village and was raised in Pine Point, Minn. He attended schools
in Pine Point, Minn., and Park Rapids. He earned his GED and joined the
armed services where he was honorably discharged.

He was a pipe carrier, a spiritual leader, danced at Pow-Wows his whole life,
and dedicated his last 8 years to Sundance.

He is survived by 6 sisters, Elizabeth Stone, Minneapolis, Minn.; Pauline
Stone, Bemidji; Darlene Stone, Minneapolis, Minn.; Seraphine Chosa,
Walker; Irene Stone, Mahnomen, Minn.; Jolene Ajootion, Las Vegas, Nev.; 2
brothers, Merlin Stone, McIntosh, Minn.; John Stone, Jr., Fairbault, Minn.; 2
sons, Marshall Patrick Stone, Minneapolis, Minn.; Keenan John Stone;
grandsons; granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; 3 sisters, Geraldine, Maxine and
Bernadine Stone; brother, William Stone; son, Marvin John Stone, Jr.; and a
grandson.
