Melvina Applebee, 77 of Red Lake, died on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at
Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at the Red Lake
Community Center in Red Lake with Rev. Bob Kelly officiating. A wake will
begin 6 p.m. today, Aug. 11, at the Red Lake Community Center and will
continue until the time of the service. Burial will be at the St. Antipas Episcopal
Cemetery in Redby under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of
Bemidji.

Pallbearers will be: Gary Applebee, Damon Applebee, Donald Applebee,
Fabian “Ano” English, James “J.D.” Demo, Andrew Martin, alternates Thomas
Applebee, and Charles Szmiot Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Mary “Bunny” Morrison, Judy Roy, Neddy Tyler,
Patty Rossbach, Lillian Stand, Lillian Reese, Red Lake Dialysis Unit, Arnold
Pemberton Jr., Arnold Chaboyea, All her relatives and friends.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1932, to Allen and Sophie (Rain) Morrison in Red
Lake. She attended the Red Lake High School. She married Thomas Nathan
Applebee. She worked various jobs throughout her life including Minnetonka
Moccasin, Park Avenue Nursing Home, Hennepin County Detox Center and
the Mystic Lake Casino. Her favorite occupation was being a cook and house
parent for United Indian Boys and Girls Group Home. She also was proud of
caring for the hotel suite that John F. Kennedy was in while he stayed in
downtown Minneapolis. She enjoyed gambling, people watching, attending
community events, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Gary Applebee, Donald Applebee, Debra
Applebee, Lorie Applebee, Linda Applebee and Andrew Martin; sister, Mary
Morrison; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Ronald, Michael
and Brandon; and seven grandchildren.
