Minnie Lucille Murray Oakgrove, whose Ojibwe name is Gii-Boo-Bi-Equway, which
means “Tailor Woman,” 63, of Redby, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 201, at the Red
Lake Indian PHS Hospital in Red Lake.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Sports
Complex in Naytahwaush, with Rev. George Ross officiating. A wake will begin at
noon today, Dec 21, at the Red Lake Humanities Building. A second wake will
begin at noon Wednesday Dec. 22, at the Sports Complex Building at
Naytahwaush and will continue until the time of the service Thursday. Burial will be
at the Samuel Memorial Cemetery in Naytahwaush under the direction of the
Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Pallbearers will be De’andre Oakgrove, Charles Oakgrove, Keith Redeagle,
Charles Helps, Scott Upperguard, Dustin Helps, with alternates Rob Jackson,
Donanvan Green, Bob Redeagle, Norman Vanpelt, Robert (Bubba) Vanpelt and
Jessie Kaiser.

Honorary pallbearers will be Julia Oakgrove, Katrina Oakgrove, Angela Oakgrove,
Kristine Oakgrove, Destiny Oakgrove, Aletha Thompson, Sam Green, Gloria
Gilbert, Christin May and the staff at Northwest Technical College.

She was born June 21, 1947, to Fred and Madaline (Roy) Murray in Twin Lakes,
Minn. She was raised and educated in the Twin Lakes/Naytahwaush area with her
father until moving to Minneapolis to live with her mother. She lived there and
graduated from Central High School until moving to Oakland, Calif., to further her
education. She moved back to Minneapolis where she met and married Collins
Oakgrove. She continued her education by getting an AA degree from the
University of Minnesota. She worked various jobs at Honeywell, Control Data, The
People Center, JTPA, J.O.M (Johnson O’Malley) and the Ni-bin summer school.
She was very involved in her children’s education. She was a past member of the
Minneapolis School Board and various parent committees. In the early 1990s, she
moved to Red Lake where she worked at Northwest Technical College where she
served as a minority advisor until she died. She enjoyed spending time and being
a loving mother and grandmother with her family and friends, going to powwows
and the casino, playing bingo, fishing and shopping,

She is survived by husband- Collins W. Oakgrove of Redby; sons, Tim (Lee)
Oakgrove of Redby, Tom Oakgrove of Redby Harry Helps of Fargo, N.D., Robert
(Karri) Helps of Fergus Falls and Donald Helps of Fergus Falls; daughters, Julia
Oakgrove of Redby and Gloria (Jim) Gilbert of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren;
and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Madaline (Roy) Murray; father, Fred
Murray, brothers, Donald Azure, Charles (Ben) Azure, Fred Murray Jr., David
Murray and Robert (Jack) Murray, sisters, Freida Helps, Philomene Beaupre,
Marilyn Bennett, Muriel Azure and Beverly Foster.
