Roland James “Miizhikwad” Skinaway, 24, whose name means “Ray of Sunshine
through the Clouds on a Cloudy Day,” died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, due to health
complications.

The traditional service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Veteran’s
Memorial Building in Cass Lake with Spiritual Leader Lee Staples officiating. The
wake will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the memorial building. Burial will
be in Pine Point, Minn., following Saturday’s service. The family requests no
flowers. Arrangements were entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.

Pallbearers will be Robie Rock, Ronald Skinaway Jr., Joseph Burris, Marcus
Burris, Adrian Burris, Randy Burris, Levi Burris and Blaze Wakefield.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of his other relatives.

He was born on May 24, 1986, to Bonnie Rock and Ronald Skinaway Sr. He
enjoyed his family and liked to tease. He enjoyed powwows, dancing and was in
the process of rejoining the dance circle. He was happy most of the time and did
not complain about anything. He lived in the Bemidji and Cass Lake area most of
his life and completed his GED in 2008 in Cass Lake. He also attended the Leech
Lake Tribal College. He was an artist until he could not hold any type of instrument
in his hands, including a pen, pencil or hammer.

He is survived by his parents, of Red Lake; paternal grandmother; siblings, Robie
(Jessica) Rock, of Inver Grove Heights, Veronica (Ian) Veaux, of Bemidji, Ronald
(Alia Dorr) Skinaway Jr., of Cass Lake, Nikki Skinaway, of Oakland, Calif.,
Philomene Skinaway, of Willmar, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by three grandparents, a cousin and numerous aunts
and uncles.
