Shirley Cook Burgoon, 71 of Red Lake, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Altru
Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Red Lake. A wake will begin at 10:30 a.m. today, March
16, at the Red Lake Center and continue until the time of service Thursday.
Burial will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the
Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thelberta Lussier, Shirley Maxwell, Tillie Colhoff,
Glendoris “Pee-wee” Smith, Edwina Neadeau, Charmaine Branchaud, Karen
Chaboyea, Darlene “Wooda” Needham and Carla Cook.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Frank Stately, Rodney Defoe, Robert Cook
Sr., Dylan Rossbach, Corey J. Stately, Douglas Tarnow, Jeff Cook, Kurtis
Tarnow and Michael Cook.

She was born April 8, 1938, Francis Lawrence and Ramona Cook in Red
Lake. She was raised and educated in Red Lake, graduating from Red Lake
High School in 1956. She worked for Comp Health and Family Services and
was the Red Lake Community Center Coordinator from 1999 to present. She
married Roy J. Burgoon Oct. 17, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev. She loved to travel
and be with her family; especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking care
of and decorating her yard with the help of her husband. She was always there
for her community and anyone who needed her help.

She is survived by her husband; children, Douglas (Brenda) Cook, Edward
(Carla) Cook, Mona Stately, Gerald “Jerry” Cook, Lisa (Pat) Defoe; siblings:
Gloria Cobenais, Robert “Rocky” Cook, Leo Desjarlait Jr., Fred Desjarlait Sr.,
Don Desjarlait Sr., Arlen Desjarlait, Dave Desjarlait, Kathy Desjarlait, Kay
Greene; special granddaughter, Alexis Brown; 23 grandchildren; and 34 great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tracey in 1994; a
grandson; and brothers Reggie Lawrence and Brian Desjarlait and Kenneth
Stately.
