Thomas Millar, age 84, of Bemidji, Minn. died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at
the North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji, Minn.

Pall bearers will be Jarret Finlayson, Shay Millar, Eric Millar and Robert Skaar.

Honorary bearers will be Martin Reinke, Ken Moen, Floyd Jorgensen, Ron
Lyman, Dave Thompson and Tom Lapp.

Thomas Burton Millar, Jr. was born October 26, 1925 in Pinewood, Minn. to
Thomas and Sadye Millar. He grew up and went to school in the Pinewood
area and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1943. In 1944 he entered the
U.S. Army, serving in the 65th Infantry, 651st Division, under Patton’s 3rd
Army in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star and was
honorably discharged in 1946. After returning to the Pinewood area, he
married Dorothy Jean Fredrickson on June 18, 1948 in Bemidji. He worked at
Saar’s Garage while attending Bemidji State University where he received his
BS in Education. During his 32 ½ years of teaching he worked in Ponemah,
Goodridge and at Red Lake Elementary before retiring in 1987. In Debs,
Minn. he operated the Do-Little Lumber Company and was a historian of the
Pinewood-Debs-Aure area. Later he restored cars, trucks and small gas
engines as his hobby. He was a very active member of both the VFW and
American Legion. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Millar of Bemidji, Minn.; children,
Sarah Millar-Finlayson (Jim) of Bemidji, Minn., Susan Millar of Minnetonka,
Minn., Clifford “Kip” Millar (Paula) of Pasco, Wash., Richard “Rick” Millar
(Peggy) of Turtle River, Minn., and Ross Millar (Deanna) of Clarissa, Minn.; 9
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Omar and Earl; sisters,
Adeline and Irma.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at First
Lutheran Church with Rev. Beth Bachman Caulfield officiating. A time of
sharing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Olson-Schwartz
Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Inturnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
