Timothy Allan Geionety Jr., whose Ojibwe name is “Makwa” which means
“Black Bear,” 27, of Red Lake, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Red Lake
Hospital in Red Lake.
Traditional funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Little
Rock Community Center in Red Lake with Spiritual Leader Hank Kingbird. A
wake will begin today at the Little Rock Community Center and will continue
until the time of the services Sunday. Burial will be at the St. Mary’s Mission
Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the Cease Family
Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Beaulieu Jr., Dave White, Dale Smith Sr.,
Darwin Robinson, Gary Bearheart, Peter White, Robert “B-Guy” May, Angel
May, Sally May-O’Keefe, Nicole Robinson, Delores Robinson, Judy Beaulieu,
Gail and Melissa Bearheart and Shanoah May
Active pallbearers will be Dale White, Rocket Bearheart, Frankie Geionety,
Jessi May-O’Keefe, Brandon “Bull” Beaulieu, Vernon May, Charles “Chip”
May, Jacob May, John Bearheart and Jimmy Flute.
He was born Jan. 6, 1983, to Charla (May) and Timothy Geionety Sr. in
Bemidji. He attended school at Four Winds in Minneapolis, Webster High
School in Wisconsin, in Elgin, Okla., and Red Lake High School. He worked
as a carpen-ter in Minneapolis, a personal care assistant and as a security
guard at Grand Casino in Mille Lacs and Seven Clans Casino in Thief River
Falls. He loved being with his family, especially his children. He enjoyed fish-
ing, snowmobiling, wrestling with brothers and cousins, shooting hoops,
football and pushing buttons at the casino.
He is survived by his com-panion, Daley Smith; children, Thomas Sayers,
Shakoka Smith, Kyle Geionety-Smith, Vanessa Smith, Timothy Geio-nety III,
George Geionety and a baby girl due in February; mother, Charla Geionety;
stepfather, Dennis Buckanaga; sisters, Leberta Geionety and Denessa
Buckanaga; brothers, Charles “Charlie” May II and Delton Buckanaga; a
niece; grand-mother, Sally E. May; step-brothers and step-sisters, Gail
Bearheart, Melissa Bearheart, Krissy Bearheart, Gary Bear-heart, Rocket
Bearheart, John Bearheart, Dean Bearheart, all of Danbury, Wis.; extended
family; and many friends from Red Lake and Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy A. Geionety Sr.;
grandfathers, Charles “Te-gay-wi-Ininii,” which means “Farmer Man” Johns,
and Charles Geionety.
