Candice Darlene DeYoung, 62, of Bemidji, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at
Havenwood Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at noon Tuesday, March 8, at the Cease Family
Funeral Home in Bemidji, with the Rev. Mark Papke-Larson officiating. Visitation
will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Cease Family
Funeral Home of Bemidji.

She was born April 14, 1948 in Gary, Ind. to Jasper “Bruce” and Antoinette
(Thrush) Delegan. She was raised and educated in Markham, Ill., graduating from
Bremen High School in 1965. She married Gene DeYoung in Markham on
October 14, 1965. She attended Lewis University in Lockport, Ill., and graduated
with a degree as a registered nurse.

She worked for many years as a registered nurse in the Palos Community
Hospital in Palos Heights, Ill. She had vacationed in Minnesota throughout the
years, loved the area, and made it her family’s home. She worked as a registered
nurse at the Red Lake Hospital, as a Public Health Nurse in Walker, and the
surrounding area, and as a registered nurse at the Good Samaritan Care Home in
Blackduck. She had a passion for rescuing and taking care of injured, unloved
animals. She also enjoyed bowling, stock car races, shopping, and adding to her
collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia.

She is survived by her husband of Bemidji; children, Sheila (Robert Harr) DeYoung-
Harr of Bemidji, Gina (Norman Kiefler) DeYoung of Rockford, Ill., Aric (Nancy)
DeYoung of Wichita, Kan., Gia (Mat Johnson) DeYoung of Two Harbors, Minn,,
Edward DeYoung of Wichita, Kan.; sisters, CindyDrews of Manteno, Ill. and Sherry
Peddycord of Manteno, Ill.; brother, Duane Delegan of Manteno, Ill.. 10
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson and a great-grandson.
