Darla “Sue Zozay” Ann Beaulieu — Bashig-Bey-Zhoogoo-Niibwa-ikwe, which
means One Woman Stands Alone, Miigizi Clan — 46, of Red Lake, MN died
Sunday, Jan. 1, 2011, at her home along with her lifelong companion, Craig Roy
Sr.
Traditional Funeral Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at the
Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake. A wake will begin today, Sunday, Jan.
16, 2011, at the Little Rock Community Center and will continue until the time of
the service. Burial will be in the Family Burial Grounds in Clearwater, Minn., under
the direction of Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Active pallbearers will be her nephews, Joseph Parshall, Ramone Beaulieu Sr.,
Theveath Beaulieu, Dustin Beaulieu, Aaron Beaulieu Sr., Alton Beaulieu Sr.,
Tyrone Beaulieu Sr., Elliott Gillis, Donnie Harrison Jr., Evan Oppegard, Dominic
LaFriniere Jr., Ronald Beaulieu III, Harold Brun Sr., and Vernon Jones Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sheila Beaulieu, Rona Beaulieu, Lisa Beaulieu,
Nicole Beaulieu, Fawn Beaulieu, Dawn Beaulieu, Karis Beaulieu, Dava Beaulieu,
Vanessa Ortiz, Chelsea Beaulieu, Maria Ortiz, Yolanda Ortiz, Michelle Oppegard,
Christine Alvarado, Mona Desjarlait, Julie Desjarlait, Angie Brun, Marianne Brun,
Lisa Defoe, Armela Neadeau, Kelly Skinaway, Vicky Mostrom, Jana Desjarlait,
Jeni Zurhorst, Shyanna Brauman, Stacy Gonzalez and Sherilyn Neadeau.
She was born Aug. 11, 1964, in Red Lake to Ronald and Darlene (Johns)
Beaulieu Sr. She attended school in Red Lake, Warroad and Flandreau, S.D,
graduating from South High School in Minneapolis. She was currently employed by
the Red Lake School District as a bus driver, and was also housing commissioner
in Red Lake. She had been previously employed by social services in Red Lake,
as a blackjack dealer at the Mystic Lake Casino, Deerwood Bank manager,
police officer in Red Lake, waitress at Butler Drug in Minneapolis, a summer youth
coordinator, flag person for road construction, at Honeywell in Minneapolis, and as
a receptionist in Minneapolis.
She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, going to the casino and spending
time with family and friends. She was a great cook and baker. She was a very
vibrant, intelligent, lively, lovely, kind, beautiful strong woman who was very hard-
working. Family always came first with her. She could enliven a room with her
presence. She was always joking and making people laugh. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by: her mother, Darlene Beaulieu of Red Lake; father, Ronald
(Judy) Beaulieu of Gonvick; sons, Craig (Jeni) Roy Jr. and Jesse (Shyanna) Roy,
and daughter, Kelsey Roy, all of Red Lake; siblings, Sheila (David) Beaulieu of
Minneapolis, Rona (Mario) Beaulieu of Minneapolis, Lisa (James) Beaulieu of
Red Lake, Michelle (Frank) Oppegard of Longville, MN, Christine (Ray) Alvarado
of White Earth, Ronald (Georgia) Beaulieu Jr. of Gonvick, Nicole (Delwyn)
Beaulieu of Gonvick; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles
and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two nieces Lucia Beaulieu, Delany Beaulieu-
English, her grandparents; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
