Darlene Vivian Jackson White Eagle, Awanook (Morning Mist) Wa-Wokiye-Wiyah
(Woman who helps them), 70, of South St. Paul, died on Thursday, April 14, 2011,
at the United Hospital in St. Paul with her family by her side.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at the Veterans
Memorial Building in Cass Lake. A wake will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 24,
at Indian Ministries, 3045 Park Avenue, Minneapolis. The wake will continue at 3 p.
m., Monday, April 25, at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake and
continue there until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Prince of
Peace Cemetery in Cass Lake. Arrangements entrusted to Northern Peace
Funeral Home of Walker.

Pallbearers will be Clay Crawford, Sr., Shorty Crawford, Marquel Crawford,
Antonio Valtierra, Yoel Gavilan-Cuate and Vicente Inamagua.

Honorary pallbearers will be all nieces and nephews, AIM, All Ojibwe, Dakota and
Lakota Nations, Mexica Dancers, Sundancers, family and friends.

She was born on March 30, 1941, to Robert and Evelyn (Mink) Jackson in Cass
Lake. She was involved in several Dakota, Lakota and Ojibwe ceremonies. She
was a traditional dancer and AIM member. She loved wolves. Her traditional
activities included Sundance ceremonies and sweat lodge ceremonies; she
participated in Mexica ceremonies and all cultural activities.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Erickson of Minneapolis; brother, George
Jackson of Pennington; adopted daughter Dana (Clay) Crawford of Cass Lake;
and many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Deforest White
Eagle.
