Earl Francis Day Jr., 70, of St. Paul, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at his
home.
Traditional funeral and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. Visitation
will begin at 4 p.m. today, Jan. 13, at the Elder’s Lodge, 1500 Magnolia Ave. E.,
St. Paul. A second visitation and wake will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the
Nett Lake School, 13090 Westley Drive, Nett Lake, Minn.
Anderson Funeral Home of St. Paul assisted with arrangements.
He was born Nov. 11, 1940, to Earl F. Day Sr. and Luzenia (Fields) Day in Cook,
Minn. He grew up in Sugar Bush on the Bois Forte Reservation. He enjoyed
spending time with family and friends, traveling, dancing traditional style at various
powwows, sharing his humor and stories with everyone. He enjoyed playing the
drums, hunting, fishing, ricing, making maple syrup and candy. He loved to teach
others about Anishinaabe traditions, culture, and language. He was teaching the
Ojibwe language for the St. Paul School District, worked for the Leech Lake
Reservation in the gaming Department, worked as a welder and carpenter for
many years in the Twin Cities area.
He is survived by his children, Annette “Anne” (Joe Nadeau Sr.) Day of Cass Lake,
Earl “Joshua” Day of Georgia, David Day, Stillwater, Minn.,. and Rebecca
(Richard Beaulieu)Day of Tower, Minn.; ex-wife and life-long friend, Donna Day of
Cass Lake; sisters, Lorraine King of Brainerd, Minn.; and Marge Day of Kokomo,
Indi.; brothers, Marlon (Edna) Day of Hinckley, Minn., and Clarence Day of Cass
Lake; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Hewas preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; sisters Irene Fischer and
Julia Day; aunts; uncles; many cousins; and special friend Debbie Gibbons, Ely,
Minn.
