Emoline (Nyhous) Furey, 92, of Bena, died March 10, 2011 at the Grand Itasca
Hospital in Grand Rapids surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, at the Carroll
Funeral Home, Deer River, Minn. A visitation will be held one hour before the
service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bena.

She was born on March 10, 1919, in Valley City, N.D. When she was five years old
her family moved to Bena. She attended school in Federal Dam and Cass Lake.
She married Charles Furey in August of 1939 and they made their home in Bena.
She worked at Fishing Lodge for 45 years on Portage Lake along with her
husband. Later she worked as the head cook for the Bena School until it closed.
She loved to spend her down time in the winter riding her Johnson snowmobile out
to her dark house where she would spend the whole day. One of her favorite
pastimes was to write her weekly letters to her sisters. She enjoyed reading,
cooking, and spending time with her family and her Cockapoo, Annie.

She is survived by her son, James (Sherry) Furey of Bigfork, Minn.; a daughter,
Ruth Ann (Jack) Grandy of Laporte; sisters, Irene Erickson, Lorraine Hare and
Jeanette Hare; brothers, Maurice and Delbert Nyhous; four grandsons; two
granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles Jr.; her parents, Embert
and Clara Nyhous; and a brother, Gordon Nyhous.
