Juanita Rene (Pacheco) Rodriguez, 55, of Bemidji died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at
the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Peoples Church
in Bemidji, located at 824 America Ave.

She was born Sept. 3, 1955, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Rudy and Roberta
(Drumbeater) Pacheco, and the oldest of eight. She was raised and educated in
Minneapolis, St. Paul and Federal Dam. She enlisted with the U.S. Air Force in
1976 and was honorably discharged in 1980. She enjoyed traveling. She had lived
in Spain, Washington State and Florida. She enjoyed doing beadwork and
attending powwows. She helped raise her siblings and later took care of many
foster children and raised her brother’s daughters, Carmen and Cara Pacheco.
She married Harlan Downwind. She graduated in 1996 from Bemidji State
University with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. She worked for
Leech Lake Division of Resources Management and the Peoples Church, where
she was the president of the board.

She is survived by her daughter, Candace Downwind; special daughters, Juanita
and Mika; sisters, Roberta (Byron) Quinn, Valerie (Rich Robinson) Cloud, Theresa
Nelson; brother,Valentino; nieces; nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Jim Drumbeater; parents; uncle;
brothers, Rudy, Reynaldo, Ramon and Anthony; sister, Bunny Pacheco; aunts,
Rose Pacheco Cloud and Linda Mitchell; and granddaughter.
