Larry M. Smallwood, Jr. whose Ojibwe name was “Waaseaanakwad” meaning
“Shining Cloud of the Eagle Clan”, 38, of Red Lake, died on Monday, Jan. 24,
2011, at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.

A traditional funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the Little Rock
Community Center in Red Lake, with spiritual leader Lee Staples officiating. A
wake will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday Jan. 27, at the Little Rock Community Center in
Red Lake and will continue until the time of services on Friday. Burial will be in the
St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral
Home of Bemidji.

Pallbearers will be Robert “B-Guy” May, Vernon May, Ron Day, Jacob May, Daniel
Polonia and Jessi May-O’Keefe, Charles May.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Debbie Lussier, Daniel Donno, R. J. Lussier, Glen
Fairbanks and Mitch Lussier.

He was born Aug. 19, 1972, to Larry and Belva (Neadeau) Smallwood in
Minneapolis. He grew up in Minneapolis, lived in Hinckley, Duluth, and most
recently moved to Red Lake.

He was known for his humor, quick comebacks, a caring person to all his nieces
and nephews. He enjoyed listening to Pow-Wow and Contemporary music and
spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his father; brothers and sisters, Kevin White of Minneapolis,
Shannon Smallwood of Duluth, Aaron Day of Mille Lacs, Karla Smallwood, Dean
Smallwood, Eli Staples all of Hinckley, Stacy Archambault of Rapid City, S.D.,
Falon Jackson of McGregor, Nicole Schnorr of Duluth, Justin Downwind
Smallwood of Hinckley, Dennis James Smallwood of Cass Lake and special
Sister, Kelly Lovelace of St.Paul; several aunts; uncles; cousins; nephews and
nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Shawn and older brother, "Big
Shane".

He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Messages of condolence may be
