Sheila Marie (Baptiste) Hardy, 40, of Ponemah, formerly of Minneapolis, died
Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Red Lake PHS Indian Hospital in Red Lake.
A traditional funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, at the Ponemah
Community Center in Ponemah with spiritual leader Steve Jackson. A wake will
begin at noon Saturday at the center and will continue until the time of the services.
Burial will be in the family burial grounds in Ponemah under the direction of the
Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin Buckanaga, Doug Buckanaga, Gary Spears, Jr.,
Robin Hardy, Joe Stewart and Ron Goodteacher.
Honorary pallbearers will be “Cookie” Goodteacher, Merri Ann Neadeau, Connie
Defoe, Val Jones, Shari Lea Hardy and Michelle Jeaneen Hardy.
She was born March 7, 1971, in Red Lake, to Clayton Hardy and Alameda
Baptiste. She was raised and educated in Red Lake. She moved to the
Minneapolis area in 1991 where she attended the American Indian OIC. From
1993-1996, she was a foster parent for kids who needed a place to stay. She
returned back home to Ponemah a year ago.
She is survived by her parents; sons, Kevin, Doug, Logan and Shawn Jr.;
daughters, Shastasha and Sierra; a grandson; sisters, Janelle Whitefeather and
Colleen WalkingEagle; uncles, Clifford and William Hardy; aunts, Pat Hardy and
Shirley Hardy-Spears; and many other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and several cousins.
