Shirley Shepherd Windom “Hoske” (In the Valley), 74, of Pennington died
Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Community
Center in Enemy Swim, with the Rev. Chan, the Rev. Les Campbell and Traditional
Spiritual Leader Danny Seaboy officiating. All-night wake beginning at 7 p.m.
today, Jan.12, at the Community Center in Enemy Swim. Burial will be held in the
spring in the Windom Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Shepherd, Brandon Shepherd, Corwin BlueDog, Rafael
BlueDog, Curtis Bissonette, Eugene Bissonette, Tyler Shepherd and Roy
Crazybull.

Honorary pallbearers will be family, relatives and friends.

The Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted, Minn. Assisted the family with
arrangements.

She was born o April 20, 1936, to Raymond Shepherd and Lena Hayes in
Waubay, S.D. She was a homemaker. She loved being around family and
relatives. She supported her daughter, grandsons and other family members who
sundanced. She carried her traditional ways and applied those to her daily life.
She was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Enemy Swim and the
Sisseton- Whapeton Oyate.

She is survived by her husband, William Windom Sr.; sons, Levi Williams Jr. of
Bemidji and Troy Williams of Pennington; daughters, Barb Jens of Sisseton, S.D.,
Roberta Williams and Lisa Williams, both of Penington; 33 grandchildren; 46 great-
grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Shepherd Jr. of Sisseton and Moses Keeble of
Waubay; sisters, Ethel Bissonette of Rapid City, S.D., Sophie Bissonette of Cass
Lake and Marlys BlueDog of Sisseton,; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, James King; daughter, Imogene Williams;
and parents.
