Thomas Richard Lapp, 78, of Bemidji, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the
North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at First Lutheran
Church, Bemidji, with the Rev. James Darchuk officiating. Family will greet friends
one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be in
Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji, in the spring. Arrangements are with the
Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji.
Urn bearers will be all of his grandchildren.
He was born Oct. 12, 1932, to Richard and Lillian (Anderson) Lapp in St. Vincent,
Minn. He grew up in St. Vincent and graduated from Crookston Agricultural
College in 1950. After high school, he worked as a telegrapher for the railroad. He
entered the U.S. Army in January 1953 and was honorably discharged in
December 1954. He married Alice Joy Christenson April 2, 1955, in First Lutheran
Church, Bemidji. He attended Bemidji State University and graduated in 1959 with
a Bachelor of Science degree in teaching. He taught at Baudette High School and
then Red Lake High School, retiring from there after 30 years of teaching. He was
a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, Eagles,
Elks and Bemidji Curling Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, curling and hunting. He
most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of Bemidji; children, David (Sheila) Lapp of Bemidji,
James (Carsha) Lapp of Bemidji, Cynthia (Kevin) Fetsch of Grand Forks, N.D.,
and Peter (Beth) Lapp of Bemidji; eight grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Lapp of St.
Vincent; and brother, John (Elaine) Lapp of Burnsville, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richmond Lapp.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
