Vincent “John” Allen Graves, 63, of Ponemah, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at the
Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Center in Red Lake.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Ponemah
Community Center in Ponemah with the Rev. Tom Pollack officiating. A wake will
begin Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Ponemah Community Center and will continue until
the time of the service at the center under the direction of the Cease Family
Funeral Home of Bemidji.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Graves, Wendell Graves, Brian Graves, Craig Graves,
Brandon Cloud and Roger Cloud.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Iceman, Robert LookingElk, Larry LookingElk
and Michael LookingElk.

He was born Nov. 19, 1947, to Joseph and Genevieve (Downwind) Graves in Red
Lake. He grew up and was educated in Ponemah. He logged with his father and
brother, Roger. He moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1964 and attended mechanic school.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged
in 1970. He and his family moved to Minneapolis where he worked at a steel plant
as a machinist. He moved with his family to Ponemah in 1976. He married Donna
White in April 1983 in Bemidji. He was a commercial fisherman and transportation
driver for Red Lake Comprehensive Health. He became an EMT and worked for
the Red Lake Ambulance. He retired in 2006. He enjoyed nature and being
outside, hunting, fishing and he loved spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of Ponemah; children, Michael Graves of Ponemah,
Michelle Graves of Warroad, Minn., Brian Graves of Ponemah, Craig Graves of
Ponemah, Jerilyn Graves of Ponemah, Jonathan Graves of Ponemah and Wendell
(Jerilyn Whitefeather) Graves of Ponemah; brother, Jerome Graves of Ponemah;
Helen LookingElk of Minneapolis; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Josephine Cloud; brothers,
Roger Graves, Bruce Graves and Harold Graves; and an infant grandson.
